Our Mission

Our Mission is to Empower ADHDers and their Families to Live Life to the Fullest.

Empower

“Empower” means giving someone the freedom or the official authority to do something. We want to return the ability to take control of their lives to those with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder - it is something that a person is born with (e.g. genetics), or develops as a result of head trauma, premature birth or certain maternal actions during pregnancy (eg. drugs, alcohol, smoking, extreme stress, etc.). Thus, whether one has ADHD or not is not a matter of choice.

Although a person may not be able to change the ADHD condition they are born with, what is within their control is how they respond to the situation. This will thus determine their outcomes in life.

We want to enable ADHDers to accept, own and embrace their condition so that they can make informed decisions and equip themselves to live a better life.

ADHDers and Families

No person is an island. When it comes to ADHD, we believe that for lasting and effective change to take place, we need to look at both the ADHDer and their Family. This is especially since there is a genetic link with ADHD. In many cases, when one family member is diagnosed, it is only a matter of time before other members in the family are diagnosed.

Thus, we believe in looking at the whole family when it comes to ADHD especially as family support is so critical towards how well adjusted an ADHDer will be in society. A family that learns about ADHD together and creates a nurturing and positive environment to raise ADHD children will give them the best chance of living a productive life.

Live Life to the Fullest

What Unlocking ADHD aims to do is not just provide the tools to help ADHDers level the playing field. More than that, we want to give ADHDers and their families HOPE - to have the belief and the courage to dream - and aspire to be more than they thought was possible.

We believe that the Growth Mindset is important for ADHDers to live a productive and successful life that will maximise the potential that each ADHDer is born with.

Our mission is to empower ADHDers and their Families to Live Life to the Fullest and to believe that the best is yet to be.

Our Logo

The Unlocking ADHD logo was created by our volunteer, Andrea Koh. It represents the Heart of what we do.

  • The yellow part of the brain represents the pre-frontal cortex which is responsible for the executive function of the brain. This covers areas such as planning, organizing, task initiation, task completion, emotional regulation, short term memory and time management. This is an area that many ADHDers struggle with, and it directly affects school and work performance.  We chose yellow also because yellow is the colour of HOPE
  • The orange colour of the brain represents vibrancy, energy and hyperactivity. Orange is also the colour of ADHD awareness
  • We selected the Lock as a symbol of how the potential of ADHDers is locked up when they remain unaware of their condition and their unmanaged ADHD symptoms threaten to derail their lives. At Unlocking ADHD, our goal is to help unlock this potential for ADHDers so that they can have a better life.
  • The shape of the opened lock is like a question mark - we would like to help ADHDers and their families find the answers to the questions they have about themselves, and that others have about them.
  • The shape of the opened lock is also symbolic of an earlobe - a listening ear is so important to ADHDers and their families on this journey. Through peer support groups, Unlocking ADHD hopes to be able to provide emotional and social support and accountability to the community
